No. 4/4 Football contains Rams’ offense, wins sixth straight season opener

The Crimson Tide’s opener win helped extend its streak of wins in season openers

The University of Alabama football team defeated the University of Utah 55-0 in the Crimson Tide’s 2022 football season opener on Saturday night, Sept. 3 inside a sold out crowd at Royal-Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas.

The Crimson Tide’s victory marked its sixth straight season-opening win and its 23rd-straight win over a Power Five opponent.

Alabama’s defense dominated

After the Rams scored a touchdown roughly three minutes into the game, the Alabama defense held Utah to just 102 total yards of offense, including minus-23 rushing yards, and forced three turnovers.

The Crimson Tide defense was led by Dallas Turner and Will Anderson who each had two sacks.

Alabama’s offense, meanwhile, was led by quarterback Bryce Young, who completed 18 of 28 passes for 195 yards and three touchdowns.

Running Jahmyr Gibbs led the Crimson Tide in rushing, with 93 yards on 12 carries, and wide receiver Jermaine Burton led the receiving corps with 55 yards on three catches.

The Crimson Tide are now ranked No. 2 in the country

With the win, Alabama improved to 1-0 on the season and is now ranked No. 2 in both the Associated Press and Coaches polls.

Alabama travels to Texas next

The Crimson Tide will travel to Austin, Texas, to take on the No. 1-ranked Texas Longhorns at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin on Saturday, Sept. 10.
